Summer Story Hour Preserved at the HUB!

Dover: The HUB Family Resource Center will be offering the popular Dover tradition of summer drop-in story hour at their newly renovated space in the McConnell Community Center. Sarah Hydorn, long-time Dover Public Library story teller, will be “on stage” with her popular story telling performances for young children and their parents for five weeks at the HUB beginning on Thursday, July 12th at 10am. The drop-in story hour will continue each Thursday morning through August 9th from 10 to 11am. There is no cost for attending these performances.

Dover Library Director Cathy Beaudoin stated that due to city budget cuts, this long running tradition typically held in the library’s 2nd floor Lecture Hall can no longer be offered. “It is unfortunate that summer drop-in story hour with Sarah cannot continue here at the library, but we are thrilled that the HUB is able to offer this program and continue it right next door at the McConnell Community Center.”

The HUB’s Executive Director Greg Burdwood added, “The purpose of the McConnell Community Center is to serve the community. We are elated that the HUB can fill this programming gap in our community, and utilize the McConnell Center in a manner in which its visionaries and tenants have hoped for. Offering these wonderful summer story telling performances also upholds the HUB’s mission of providing all families with educational programs and support services, enhancing their abilities to raise healthy children in caring homes. Not only does this type of programming encourage community members to visit the McConnell Center, but its close proximity to the library, and the familiar face of Sarah will help build community and cross promotion of events and activities.”

Residents in Dover and surrounding towns are welcome to attend the HUB’s summer drop-in story hour. Space for these performances will be on a first come first serve basis.
