On Sunday, April 13, 2008 the HUB Family Resource Center -along with four other local non-profit organizations, Rochester Runners and the city of Dover held the 27th Annual Red's Race. This five mile road race began 27 years ago with Red's Shoe Barn. Two years ago, Reds Shoe Barn wanted to turn this event into a community fund raiser, with local non-profits involved in the planning and execution of this Dover tradition. Along with the planning, the local non-profits transformed this event into a fundraiser, helping to further each mission - strengthening our community with the vital work that each organization strives to uphold.
In addition to the proceeds realized through the non-profit collaboration, the HUB introduced it's own fundraising aspect involving the entire board of directors, staff and Friends of the HUB. Over 20 HUB "Captains" came forward to raise a specific amount of money through pledges - as well as encouraging participants to take part in either the walk or run portion of the race. When the final tally was calculated for the HUB alone, $9,659 in unrestricted funds were raised through the efforts of the HUB Captains as well as the non-profit collaboration..
The HUB would like to thank Community Partners, Dover Adult Learning Center, Malley Farm for Boys, the Monarch School of New England, Red's Shoe Barn, Rochester Runners, Red's Race participants, sponsors and local companies offering generous in-kind donations, the HUB's board of directors, staff and Friends of the HUB for their hard work, dedication and successful fundraising in the name of the HUB Family Resource Center.
