The HUB Receives $40,000 from the NH Charitable Foundation, Piscataqua Division

Dover: The HUB Family Resource Center of Dover, NH recently was awarded a grant in the amount of $40,000 by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, Piscataqua Division. Funding was provided to allow the HUB operating support for expansion of services into central and northern Strafford County. This grant was provided by the Elizabeth B. Carter Fund, GPCF Community Fund, and the Oliver W. Marvin Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. This is a two-year grant that will be paid out at the rate of $20,000 per year.

The HUB Family Resource Center, a non profit organization based out of Dover, NH provides educational programs and support services to parents to enhance their ability to raise healthy kids in caring homes. The HUB provides programs to all families in Strafford County. One of the HUB’s goals is to strengthen communities and families in Northern Strafford County and to be an accessible resource for parents there.

The HUB offers various children play groups and parent support programs in Dover, Somersworth and Rochester. Many programs are free, and offer child care. The HUB’s parent groups give parents a chance to connect with other parents in their community, to talk about the developmental stages of their children, parenting challenges and to share success stories. A Dad’s group, held at the Rochester Community Center, meets weekly to support single fathers living with or without their children.

The HUB’s Healthy Beginnings program offers pregnant women and new mothers in need of extra support an opportunity to have regular home visits with an experienced parent educator and to help find answers to the many questions a new mom may have and give support for the new baby. The HUB’s Even Start program is free, promotes family literacy and helps families meet basic educational goals. Home visits include fun parent and child literacy activities, parenting information, free books and more. The HUB’s Family Wellness Project works with families under stress that can benefit from support on a regular basis. The Family Wellness Project provides home visiting support services to families undergoing short or long-term difficulties.
